Optimization Tool FAQs

Q. Are Beth Chase and Chase Advancement's LiSM Way Medical Model associated with the CompassCare OT© Linear Service Model?
While Beth Chase and Jim Harden have trained Pregnancy Resource Center (PRC) executives together for NIFLA’s Ultrasound Training Course, the two programs are different. The phrase "Linear Service Model" was first applied to a Pregnancy Center by CompassCare in 2004, to pioneer its new systematic and measurable approach in which medical pregnancy centers could more effectively reach and serve abortion-minded women. Since that time, CompassCare has successfully transferred its comprehensive program to independent PRCs in 10 different states with amazing results. CompassCare's Optimization Training (OT©2005) Program is a comprehensive system for serving abortion-minded women, and covers every aspect of the PRC, from marketing to patient decision steps, from staff scripts to database-managed follow-up. CompassCare provides all the tangible tools necessary to implement each piece of this model in your PRC. We are committed to walking with you every step of the way. Our goal is to create a community of the highest performing, most innovative, cutting edge PRCs in the world.
One of the most unique aspects of CompassCare's OT Training is the level of on-going support provided by the OT Training Coaches and CompassCare Staff. All of the training is delivered by actual OT Executives and Staff who are using the OT System in their own PRCs across the country. Executive Training is delivered in 15 bi-weekly 90-minute Live sessions, directed by Jim Harden, CompassCare President and C.E.O. in combination with the OT Executive Coaching team. Each Executive in training is also assigned a dedicated Executive coach, who is available day or night during OT implementation and beyond. Staff in Training also have access to Nurse Managers and Client Service Directors who serve as coaches during OT Training and Implementation, available to staff anytime throughout training in addition to bi-weekly Q&A Sessions. To learn more about the OT Training Team and coaching, visit CompassCare's Linear Service Model blog post.
CompassCare is delighted that Chase Advancement, led by Beth Chase, has embraced the linear service model as a more effective way of operating a pregnancy help medical clinic (PHMC), and more recently, through LiSM Way Training, began encouraging PRCs to transition to a linear approach in serving their clients. Beth’s LiSM Way Medical Model is introductory in nature to the concept of a Linear Service Model, and provides tips and techniques for helping pregnancy centers move toward a more systematic and effective approach to reaching and serving the woman at high risk for abortion.
Q. How much will it cost our Pregnancy Center Annually?
The annual licensing fee for employing the Optimization Tool is $2475.
This includes things such as initial training, comprehensive implementation coaching, ongoing research and development material, a patient website with tech support, access to the CompassCare Patient Database in order to manage patient information and statistical reports, ongoing training and coaching, and membership in the CompassCare Network of high-performing pregnancy centers.
Q. What if this program doesn't seem to be working for our Pregnancy Center? What happens next?
The Optimization Program requires significant investment by every member of the organization, and only takes a few months for significant positive results to be seen. But, should you decide that the OT Program is not right for your organization, your annual OT Contract allows you to end your relationship with CompassCare at any time with 30 days written notice.
Q. What are your main long-term goals for our Pregnancy Center?
The CompassCare Optimization Program was designed to accomplish two specific goals.
1. To reach more abortion-minded women:
2. To help them have their babies more effectively
Q. How does OT benefit my clinic?
There are many benefits to your clinic:
1. The OT is designed to dramatically reduce the amount of stress and insecurity felt by staff and volunteers when interfacing with their patients. This is accomplished by identifying and outlining very clear expectations for each job function, and providing scripts and supporting documents for every step in the patient appointment.
2. Department leaders and Executives can be confident that they know exactly what is being said to each patient every step of the way, and staff and volunteers can feel confident that they know exactly what is expected of them and that they are serving each women with excellence.
3. The organization decreases its risk of liability because all information and services provided to patients is standardized and is delivered the same way for each woman.
Q. What is the timeline for training, customization, program set-up, and implementation? When will we see results?
If your core staff team is able to focus an average of 10-15 hours per week exclusively on the transition to becoming an Optimized Center, and other staff and volunteers are prepared for training in the new model, the Optimization Process (training and implementation) will take between 4-6 months. Centers often begin to see positive results before completing the implementation process. However an additional 3-6 months of consistently running the Optimization Program is needed in order to see statistically significant increases in the number of at-risk women served and the number of those women choosing to have their babies.
This 6-12 month timeline depends almost entirely on the commitment from the Board, Executive and the rest of the staff to accomplish the goal of completing Optimization, and may take even longer if your Center is not fully able to focus exclusively on the Optimization Process.
Q. What do you mean by an abortion-minded woman?
An Abortion-minded woman is generally known as one who is pregnant and has already decided to have an abortion. However, in many cases, this becomes a subjective classification, given by a staff or volunteer without any specific criteria around each designation. In order to accurately classify each woman, and be sure that the metrics used to measure effectiveness are consistent across the Network, the CompassCare Optimization Program uses a set of seven risk factors to identify the level of each woman’s risk.
The more risk factors a woman has, the higher her risk. When a woman has four or more of the seven risk factors, she is considered “Abortion-minded.” When she has one, two or three risk factors, she is “Abortion-vulnerable.” If she has no risk factors, she is categorized as “Carry-To-Term.”
Q. How do your strategies and your program differ from others that are available to Pregnancy Clinics?
The value of the CompassCare Optimization Program is that it was created by people who are doing exactly what you are doing: reaching and serving abortion-minded women, one at a time. The process continues to be refined and improved, with continuous research and development, in response to the ever-changing culture of at-risk women.
In addition to having access to the Master Coaches who developed the Optimization Process, membership in the CompassCare Network of high-performing centers also offers access to a community of like-minded Executives, Client Service Directors, Nurse Managers and Advancement Directors across the nation, all of whom are working every day to serve the women in their communities using the Optimization Program.
Q. Our Pregnancy Care Center is spread thin. We are trying to help in so many ways, and we don't seem to have enough time, money or people. Does your program address this?
The mission of each center in the CompassCare Network is to erase the need for abortion by transforming a woman’s fear into confidence. This very specific mission allows each center using the Optimization Program to more efficiently choose where to spend its resources (whether that means people, time, money or space). It is always difficult for an organization to decide which programs should continue and which should be eliminated when there are not enough resources to do it all. The CompassCare Optimization Master Coaches are available to each participating Center to help make those difficult decisions in order to best serve your community and those women most at-risk for abortion.
Q. In most basic terms, how can your training program and custom strategy program help our Women's Pregnancy Center?
The Optimization Program will help your center focus it’s resources on those women most at-risk for abortion, and will allow you to serve them in a way that helps them have their babies more often. This includes access to ongoing research, technical support for both your website and custom Patient Database, and regular training updates. It also includes membership in a community of high-performing Pregnancy Centers in the CompassCare Network, for regular discussions, coaching and even conferences geared towards the specific challenges of serving so many abortion-minded women.
